A historcal building in town was torn down a couple months ago and leaves a hole in Riverside Drive here in Okotoks.

The beautiful old Creamery building was one of the oldest buildings in town, but due to severe fire damage the building had to come down.

Cathy Coutts of the Okotoks Museum and Archives, says "it's a loss for the community", but the building did serve many important functions during its' lifespan.

While the building is remembered as the Creamery, the building started out as being a horse barn for the lumber yard. However, when the saw mill closed down the building was repurposed as a creamery. Other uses for the building included a youth drop-in centre, a lumber yard, and in the late 1970's it was refurbished into a high end restaurant, that revived the Creamery name.

While the building itself is gone, its' historical significance and memory will continue on thanks to a picture that was commisioned by the town.
