A retrospective look into World War I is taking shape at the Okotoks Museum.

Into it's first year of showing the war's anniversary from a local perspective, the display is coming up to it's one year milestone, and with that the first unfortunate event that occurred for Okotoks during the war to end all wars.

Museum Specialist Kathy Coutts says the first death of a local solider occurred 100 years ago this month.

"August of 1915, Okotoks lost it's first soldier," she says. "So we will start to promote the anniversary of his death, and unfortunately  from 1915 onward, Okotoks lost 13 local boys."

The display will continue to show the highs and lows of WW1 as the months and years progress leading up to the eventual closure of the display in 2018.

Coutts says the display is only going to grow from there.

"As world war one progressed, our exhibit is also progressing," she says. "So currently we're looking at events and Okotoks involvement in 1915."

Coutts says she enjoys being able to add to the display, and recovering artifacts from that time frame to bring the display to life.

"Right now it's only in the first year of WWI," she says. "By the end of the exhibit in 2018, that room will be full, every month I add new things to the exhibit, because every month there was something new happening during WWI."

Coutts encourages locals to visit the display each month to see what they museum is adding to the exhibit so they can see the total evolution from the start, to the end of WWI.
