The Town of Okotoks is reintroducing its water conservation rebate program as temperatures are starting to rise.

The rebate allows residents to be rewarded for their practices towards water conservation.

Communications administrator for the Town of Okotoks Melanie Heemeryck says the program is beneficial for anyone in town.

"The rigours in your water consumption is critical for Okotoks as our community's demand for water peaks during the summer months when the Sheep River aquifer provides the least amount of resources," she says.

Heemeryck says the application process is simple.

"Residents can fill out the online application when they purchase items that are qualified for the rebate program and then it goes as credit to their utility bill."

She says the rebate covers numerous grounds of water conservation stretching beyond rain barrels.

"It's a 50 percent rebate for the total cost of purchases of up to a maximum of $200 per household for things likes drought tolerant ground cover or turf with the exception of their residential water harvesting system where they can actually get 50 percent rebate for the total cost of that system with the maximum rebate of $500 per household."
