The Town of Okotoks will host an event for the Mexican Day of the Dead this year.

Dia De Los Muertos is a celebration of the spiritual journey undertaken by loved ones who have passed away.

"Part of it goes back to our Culture, Heritage and Arts Master Plan. Goal B is to broker opportunities for all Okotokians to come together through culture," said Allan Boss, the Town's Culture and Heritage Manager. "In that document we talk about a diversity of community events that bring people together."

The events will take place on November 1st and 2nd, and will feature activities around the Foothills.

This year's festivities will feature traditional Day of the Dead activities at the Museum of the Highwood, plus a screening of the film Coco, and crafts for children at the Okotoks Library, among other things.

The Museum of the Highwood event will feature IRERI dancers from the Mexican, Latino, and Cross-Cultural society.

Many of the venues will feature altars, or ofrendas, which are used during the holiday to honour deceased loved ones.

This year's Day of the Dead events will kick off at the Okotoks Public Library on Friday, November 1.
