Okotoks has made its mark nationally when it comes to doing business.

Canadian Business and Profit Guide has ranked Okotoks fifth in Canada as the most lucrative place to do business.

Shane Olson, manager of economic development for the Town, says more than average household income, discretionary income and the cost of doing business were looked at.

"They also surveyed the community, so we did complete a survey through Okotoks Economic Development for this ranking and they asked us about other things as well like some of the amenities in the community, things like the Foothills Business Incubator and different things like the pathway system. They contribute to the quality of life which contributes to the overall rankings."

According to Olson there's currently about 20 pending business licenses awaiting approval in Okotoks.

He says construction on some of these new store fronts is moving full steam ahead.

"We've got a mix of businesses from manufacturing to office developments and you can see that by the Southbank business park near Costco. We have an office development up as well, they're putting the frame on that, the Save On Foods is coming along, and there's another commercial building of about 8,000 square feet that we understand a bank, a dentist, and Tim Hortons will be in that location."
