Students at Dr. Morris Gibson school had the opportunity to learn about acapella music on Tuesday.

The group HOJA performed for the school and gave them an interpretive history lesson on how acapella music has changed through the decades.

Often questioned on their name, the group says it's actually the title of a song from the 1980s by Todd Rundgren.

"He had one hit called Bang the Drum but he did an acapella album one time as kind of a passion project and one of the songs on it was HOJA, spelled slightly differently, and our bosses about 20 years ago thought it was a catchy name, changed the spelling a bit, and ran with it."

Along with entertaining the crowd they also shared a message of perseverance and the importance of pursuing passions.

HOJA says they're currently based in Alberta but that wasn't always the case.

"We started in Saskatoon, HOJA was there for 11 or 12 years... the biggest thing was we found we were touring to Alberta a lot so to help save on travel costs it made sense as a business to make the move."

The group formed in the summer of '98 and will be celebrating their 20th anniversary next year.
