The Okotoks spray park is ready to make a splash again this summer.

The park officially opened for the season on Sunday.

Tim Arnholz, Aquatics Supervisor for the Town of Okotoks, says last year they added new features and public washrooms so this year the opening has been fairly calm.

"This year it was really just a matter of opening up the park. We're working a little bit with the contractors just to clear off a few of those last minute things to make sure that everything's 100 per cent. Most of the deficiencies that we have now are things the public isn't going to notice but are just things that are going to make it a little bit easier for us to operate the park."

Concern may arise over water usage at the spray park when outdoor watering restrictions are in place but Arnholz says the park uses a re-circulating system and has an underground tank where they store water.

"When you turn on the features some of the water is taken from the underground tank and ran through the features so that's what you see," he explains. "Everything that drops onto the pad actually runs back into the tank and is cleaned, treated chemically, filtered, and put back into the system. The only water loss is the water that's lost through evaporation or the little bit of splash off the park."

The spray park will be open until the September long weekend, weather depending, and is open daily from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m.
