School's out and so are reduced speeds.

In Okotoks, School Zones and Playground Zones are not harmonized, meaning reduced speeds in School Zones do not apply over summer vacation.

Kelly Stienwand, Municipal Enforcement Manager, says while motorists do not have to slow to 30 km/h, it's still a good idea to to use caution in school areas.

"We do remind the public that at this time of the year there's probably even more kids out and about running around, playing, traveling back in forth to school grounds, and parks in our community," he says. ""I think it's really important that our citizens take extra care when traveling through all areas of the town, knowing there's a lot of kids, and people out playing in our parks and open spaces. Although school zones aren't in effect right now we still hope everybody will exercise a little extra caution."

Stienwand says playground zones are still in effect.

"Playground zones continue to be in effect year round and those times start at 7:30 a.m. and until sunset everyday."

Reduced speeds in school zones will resume on the first day of school from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on school days.
