With Okotoks expanding through their newest annexation plans there isn't just business plans in the works, but also the idea of bringing more social services possibilities.

The Rowan House Emergency Shelter in High River has been a corner stone in helping families recover and heal and the dream of bringing a facility to Okotoks is something the Mayor would like to see.

Bill Robertson says another Rowan House would be welcomed in town.

"The fact that the Rowan House right now, while it's just such an essential service and well deserving of our support of all of our surrounding municipalities in the region, it also turns away 25% of the number of people who come to use it," he says.

He says having a emergency shelter in Okotoks is something he's thought about for some time.

"Just with the growth and projected growth in Okotoks and various municipalities think that a second Rowan House in Okotoks to compliment the one in High River, that would just be a fantastic to the entire region to serve the needs of those women and children in need of a safe refuge."

Robertson hopes the idea of a Okotoks Rowan House isn't just a pipe dream.

"It blends in well architecturally with the surrounding area in High River and finding a compassionate developer to donate some land toward a facility such as this and so on to build the structure. I believe they'd be amendable to running a second facility under the offices of the Rowan House."
