All across North America yesterday, people donned protective glasses and turned their eyes to the skies to catch a rare glimpse of a solar eclipse.

In Okotoks, Kayben Farms handed out viewing glasses Monday morning so local residents could check out the eclipse, which was seen as a partial solar eclipse in our area.

Kayben Farms owner Judy Kolk says the eclipse offered a great opportunity to invite visitors out to the farm.

"We heard about this eclipse, like everyone else did, quite a long time ago and thought, 'This might be kind of neat'," Kolk says. "And so we ordered these solar eclipse glasses, thinking it might be fun to let people come out and be outside here and look at the solar eclipse."

Kolk ordered 100 pairs of the protective viewing glasses about a month ago and she says all of them were quickly distributed to visitors and staff.

"If I had known how many people were going to want this, I would have ordered a lot more because we have run out now."
