Okotoks is rewarding residents for their efforts to reduce water consumption.

Each year the Town offers rebates when residents purchase items that help with water consumption through the Residential Water Conservation Rebate Program.

Melanie Heemeryck, communications specialist with the Town, says the rebates are applicable to specific items.

"This year the rebate program is offering once again the WaterSense certified, high efficiency low-flow toilets, rain barrels which are always very popular, residential rainwater harvesting systems, the rain sensor for irrigation system controllers, organic and inorganic mulch, and drought tolerant ground covers or turf."

With the different items come different rebate values.

"For the rebate amounts, for example for the rain barrel, it's a 50 percent rebate per rain barrel up to a maximum of $50 per rain barrel or $100 per household but you can combine it with others," Heemeryck says. "Residential harvesting systems are a 50 percent rebate for total cost of the harvesting unit, up to $500 per household."

Low-flow toilets are also eligible for a 50 percent rebate with a maximum of $100 per toilet or $200 per household, and the rain sensor for irrigation system controllers, organic and inorganic mulch, and drought tolerant ground covers or turf can all receive 50 percent rebate for up to $200 per household.

Residents who have purchased any of the items in the 2016 calendar year are able to apply for the rebate program as long as they still have the receipts.

Rebate forms can be found at the Okotoks Recreation Centre, Municipal Centre, or online with completed forms submitted either online or at the Municipal Centre.
