Okotoks RCMP are looking for a suspicious person after an incident involving a child early Wednesday morning.

Police say around 8:30 a.m. an 8-year-old girl was walking down a path in the Crystal Shores area when she was approached by a man.

The suspect began to chase the girl and she started to run in and out of parked vehicles while he unsuccessfully attempted to grab her.

The young girl then ran to a family friends house and reported the incident. The family friend went and checked the neighbourhood and wasn't able to see anyone.

The suspect is described as being a male around 20 to 30 years old, Caucasian with a pale complexion, blue or green eyes, and was wearing a black bandana covering most of his face with a dark green, full-zip hoody with the hood up and a large black X on the back.

Sgt. Sukh Randhawa recommends children don't travel alone and if an instance like this occurs that they yell, draw attention to themselves, run to the nearest house, ask for help and call 911.

Officers say the last time an incident like this took place in Okotoks was November 2015 around Bannister Drive.

RCMP are asking anyone with information to call Okotoks RCMP (403-938-4202) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
