The Okotoks Pro Rodeo is ready to takeover Millarville this weekend.

This will be the first year for the event at the Millarville Racing and Agricultural Society grounds. The venue change was announced back in June with the reason being the rodeo has outgrown the facilities in Okotoks.

Trevor Reidy, Marketing Director for the Okotoks Pro Rodeo, says the rodeo has come a long way from its humble beginning.

"The rodeo, 27 years ago, started as a fundraiser for the Bisons Junior Hockey Club, and as time went on it got to be where they didn't have enough volunteers so they went out to the community and one of the first groups asked was minor hockey. I was with minor hockey, I was on the board, and Doug Lacey and I decided we better help the rodeo so we got a whole bunch of guys together and we did the set up, the tear down, and we did security, so that was our start for the rodeo."

While the rodeo itself has changed over the years, the ticket pricing is one area that's remained the same.

"The individual ticket is still $20, the same as it was 10 years ago," Reidy explains. "We've changed it so kids 9 and under are free each day instead of just Friday, and we have a weekend pass for $50."

More information on tickets and passes can be found here.

The rodeo goes Fri. Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m., Sat. Aug. 25 with the slack at 11 a.m. and rodeo starting at 6:30 p.m., and Sun. Aug. 26 at 1 p.m.
