There's three new exhibits opening at the Okotoks Museum and Archives this month.

The first is a continuation of the cumulative Okotoks and World War I exhibit which began on the 100th anniversary of the start of the war in 2014.

Over the last few years the museum has chronicled aspects of the war month by month, which will run for another 11 months this year until the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI on Nov.18.

Kathy Coutts, Museum Specialist, says even though the war was drawing to a close there was still plenty of conflict.

"We know now 100 years later that it was the final months of the war, but at the time the soldiers in the trenches didn't know from day-to-day when the war would end. Germany did a lot of key battles, they had a spring offensive in 1918 so we'll focus on that, some of the warfare, the battles, and the loss of life particularly among Canadians in those last few months of the war."

Coutts says the exhibit will also display the events and treaties that resulted in the resolution of WWI as well.

"Part of the exhibit is a timeline that started in 2014 and it goes month by month, so leading up to the treaties that were signed and how the war was finally resolved all of that will be unfolded as the months progress. Each month there will be new additions added to the timeline, so I encourage people to come back periodically to see how the war unfolded, 100 years later."

There's two other exhibits opening in January as well, one of which will highlight the Museum and Archives building.

"One is called Home Is Where the Heart Is, which focuses on the history of the building that now is the Okotoks Museum and Archives. It's had a number of owners and uses over the years, so this exhibit features some of that history and the families who lived here."

The third exhibit to be unveiled this month is called Just What the Doctor Ordered, featuring Okotoks' Dr. Ardiel and Dr. Morris Gibson.

The exhibits open this Saturday, Jan. 13. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
