The Okotoks Meals on Wheels program celebrated their 30th anniversary at D'arcy Ranch on Wednesday, September 23.

Okotoks Meals on Wheels Coordinator, Luella Wojcik, says she has a great team behind her, some who've been with her from the very beginning.

"We started Okotoks Meals on Wheels in 1990. People needed to have some resources for hot meals, and some of the people that were here on our original meeting are here today," she said.

Wojcik says it's more than just providing an essential service to people in need.

"Often for the people receiving meals, we might be the only social contact they have. We are very in tune to how these people are doing. We'll follow up with them or their family if they have concerns," she said.

Meals on Wheels in Okotoks has two volunteers, Ursula Hoppenheit and Ev Patersen, who have been with the program since it started.

Sandstone Lodge prepares the healthy, hot meals which are delivered to local residents by the program volunteers.

Wojcik says that it's the best job in town, due to having the best volunteers and executive committee behind the program.
