The Town of Okotoks is hoping residents will weigh in on the future of local cannabis legislation.

The Town has released an online survey looking for input on retail locations and public consumption.

Jamie Dugdale, Planning Services Manager with the Town of Okotoks, says the responses are important for council.

"It's going to help inform Council when we bring forward options on land use bylaw changes and any changes to existing smoking bylaws or smoking in public," he explains. "We want to have the public's opinion on those and then we'll bring those to Council together with staff opinion and expertise to form those options for Council in the future."

Dugdale says it's important the Town adjusts legislation to fit the community's needs.

"Every community's different and we are keeping eye on Calgary and surrounding municipalities but we want to make sure that we get the changes and policy regulations that are appropriate for our community."

The survey will be available until Apr. 8.
