The Okotoks Public Library is looking to support Foothills residents in need this Christmas.

The library has a tree on display they're hoping the community will help them decorate.

Lara Grunow, assistant librarian, says they're not looking for typical Christmas tree ornaments.

"We're asking for donations of new socks for children and adults as well as children's underwear," she says. "They can be dropped off at the library, we'll decorate our Christmas tree with them and hopefully we'll have a very sock filled tree, then we'll get them to the Rowan House Emergency Shelter so they can use them throughout the year."

Grunow says people are encouraged to drop off their donations when they come to check out a fun event with Santa this week.

"We have Santa Claus who's going to pop in Thursday and he's going to be reading bed time stories to the kids so we're inviting the community to come out in their jammies at 6:30 p.m. and Santa's going to read some stories, we'll do some crafts, we'll fill the kids with sugar and then send them home."

The library is also hosting a workshop Wed. at 6:30 p.m. called Helping Yourself Heal During the Holiday Season for those who may find themselves struggling.

Donations for the Rowan House can be dropped off until Dec. 21.
