The Okotoks Public Library is once again inviting local adults to dive into some summer reading with this year's adult summer reading challenge.

They've selected 12 titles for library members to read, vote on and review with draws for prizes made a couple of times each week.

Wanda Clark, Okotoks Public Library adult reading coordinator, says all the titles have been recommended by library staff.

"They give me a selection of what they've read in the past year, or it could be longer than that, that they thought was fantastic," Clark explains. "Then I choose 12 out of their selections that we put forth this year. There are seven fiction and five non-fiction titles."

Prizes have been donated by the Marigold Library System and the Okotoks Public Library and Clark says they include goody bags filled with items such as notebooks, pens, coupons and treats.

For each book read, patrons can receive one prize entry form for a rating ballot filled out and an extra one for compiling a review that will be posted to the library's social media.

"When I get the reviews, I do post them on our Facebook page, and Twitter and Instagram," Clark says. "People like to see what other people thought about the book and last year we actually got a really great discussion going on our Facebook page."

She says the purpose of the event is to encourage readers to discover new authors and explore new genres and also to provide adults with a fun summer reading contest.

The library's 6th Annual Adult Summer Reading Challenge kicked off on June 9 and runs until August 10. The book with the highest rating at the end of the challenge will be declared the winner of the Adult Summer Reading Challenge.
