Saturday afternoon the George became the home for the Okotoks Hockeyville Hot Stove Lounge.

The event was a twist on the CBC hockey show that allowed sports writers to come together and discuss a game.

Connie Drake, Hockeyville organizer, says that the point of the event was to bring the community together and talk about what Hockeyville can do for Okotoks.

"Getting the community on board and talking about hockey in this kind of a platform was fun," Drake said.

The Hockeyville committee had local sports icons Jim "Bearcat" Murray, Shannon Kleibrink, Chris Cedarstrand and Carla McLeod come and talk about their careers.

Drake says that having these people come out and speak at the event meant a lot to the committee and what they want to do with Hockeyville.

"Having these people who have made a mark with hockey and just with sport in general in the Okotoks community."

The night started to wrapped up with funny stories being told from McLeod talking about a snowball fight she had with the Olympic team from Japan to lift their morale and spirit, to Murray telling a story from his days of being a trainer for the Calgary Flames where the team "pants-ed" him on the ice.

Drake said the eveing was what the committee had envisioned.

"The idea was to share stories about hockey and about how it has effected their lives," Drake said.

The nominations for Kraft Hockeyville closed Sunday night, and now judges are judging the #KHV_PASONCENTARENA hashtag on social media. The top 10 nominated communities will be announced on March 5th.

In the upcoming weeks more Okotoks Hockeyville events will be coming including the Winter Carnival on Feb. 21.

To help become the next Kraft Hockeyville #KHV_PASONCENTARENA on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
