The Okotoks Food Bank is starting off 2018 with full shelves.

Fundraisers and food drives held throughout the holiday season, paired with the generosity of the community, mean the food bank has kicked off the new year well stocked with non-perishable food items.

Sheila Hughes, executive director of the Okotoks Food Bank, says there's a few items that are less commonly donated they're now hoping for.

"There's always a few things that we need we don't generally get in donations which are the personal care type items like shampoo and conditioner and cleaning supplies... but besides that we're in fantastic shape."

Monetary donations are always welcome as they help the food bank to purchase the fresh food they include in their hampers.

Hughes says volunteers have been busy going through their holiday haul.

"Our volunteers are working really, really hard to get through all of the donations because everything has to get sorted through, no matter what it is it all has to be sorted, so they have a big job ahead of them. If anyone wants to come out and volunteer they can always give us a call and we'd love to have them come join us."
