The Okotoks Food Bank is seeking donations during a particularly trying Christmas season.

As part of their "Adopt-a-Family" program, the Food Bank is expecting to distribute at least 225 hampers on their main distribution day on December 15th, with 140 families adopted at the moment.

Sheila Hughes, Executive Director at the Okotoks Food Bank says that number might rise.

"We never turn a family away, we make sure we welcome everybody. I don't think I've not been at the Food Bank on December 24th doing at least one hamper, we make sure we welcome everybody."

The hampers contain all the Christmas essentials including stuffing, a choice of ham or turkey, carrots, mixed vegetables, and mandarin oranges to name a few.

Hughes says there is a huge need in the community, with this year being one of the worst she's seen.
