The Okotoks Food Bank is looking to support families feeling the financial strain of sending their children back to school.

The food bank is hoping to include convenient snack options kids can take to school in their weekly hampers.

Sheila Hughes, executive director of the Okotoks Food Bank, says there's a few specific items she'd like to see donated.

"Things like single serve meals, soups, and mac and cheese, items that have a pull top on them that makes them easy to take to school, tuna and crackers, cheese or peanut butter and crackers, fruit cups and fruit snacks, granola bars, pudding, juice boxes are always great and turkey bites or pepperoni sticks are wonderful because they're a really good protein."

Donations of kids personal care items like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and tooth brushes are always accepted as well.

Hughes says local businesses can get on board with helping too.

"If any local businesses or even groups or neighbours would like to get together and do a back to school drive with school items we'd love to help out and supply them with a donation bin or a list of items they can pass around their neighbourhood and go collect."
