The Okotoks Fire Department were busy last week in this edition of the fire report but they didn't to respond to a single fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Pat MacIssac says despite the drop in fire calls they were on the scene with paramedics quite a bit last week.

"We were busy with emergency calls, we had 19 calls last week but didn't have any fire calls but we had a hazmat response, went to three motor vehicle accidents, we had 13 medical responses and two alarm system activations."

MacIssac emphasizes as the run-off is continuing in the mountains, he says there is still a large risk on the Sheep River and people should take a look at the level of the river and it's current speed before heading out and spending some time in it.

"It's unpredictable, the levels go up and down without a lot of notice so we always want people to be cautious around the river."

MacIssac says it has also been a busy week for members of the department as they'll be partaking in this weekend's Fire Fit competition and knows how strenuous it can be.

"You need some pretty good physical fitness and cardio to do it and we've got a few members in our department who are really good at it."
