It was a very busy week for the Okotoks Fire Department and that doesn't just include their day to day operations.

The fire hall was kept extremely busy with Fire Prevention Week along with in house training and going through thorough inspections of many homes.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says their report for last week had a little of everything.

"Response wise we had 21 responses which is average for us, which brings us to a total of responses to 853 for the year and we're 80 ahead of last year at this time."

Thevenot says the fire department were pleased with the amount of residents that took them up on their free offer of home inspections to make their house is safe from unnecessary fires.

Thevenot says they were busy going to home to home last week and hope Okotokians continue to ask them questions on fire safety.

"We set up some home inspections, so we headed out on Tuesday night we went out and completed some home inspections probably did 30-40 home inspections that night," he says. "On Thursday night we completed around that 30 mark."

Thevenot says the department used Fire Prevention Week as a way to better educate themselves in future emergency situations.

"On top of our responses, on top of Fire Prevention Week we had a couple days of investigation training that went on and also we had a day of vehicle extrication training, we also completed some fire drills in out town buildings and we did some fire extinguisher training with some of our town staff."

Thevenot encourages residents to call the Fire Department if they haven't received a home inspection, they are free to the public and all you have to do is arrange a time for the department to come out and inspect.
