The Okotoks Fire Department was kept on their toes last week with a variety of different calls.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says it was an average week of calls for his department, but not many actual calls involving fire related emergencies.

"We had 21 total responses for the week, making up those responses were seven medical responses, one public hazard, five motor vehicle collisions we attended to and eight alarm system activations," he says.

Thevenot says the average rate is still up from this point in 2014.

"This brings us to a total of responses for the year is 906, and we're ahead by 77 calls from last year."

He says as the temperature continues to drop, the types of training exercises expands for the department.

"One of the things we do in the fall, is when the lake freezes up, we can get out on to the lake when it starts to freeze and it gets a little honeycombing on the ice we'll be practicing our ice rescue skills."
