A quieter week than usual for Okotoks Fire Services.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief says they responded to 22 calls.

"12 medical responses, four alarm system activations, two gas leaks, one vehicle fire, two public service calls, and one motor vehicle collision."

Although there were a few alarm system activations that were due to events, Thevenot says many activations are caused by faulty detectors.

However, he says even if there isn't a fire or carbon monoxide issue, he doesn't consider it a false alarm.

"The system is doing what it's supposed to do, the system is activating and telling us that there's a problem with the system that it needs to be fixed. Either there is a problem with the system malfunctioning, or there's an actual event going on that needs to be attended to."

Thevenot reminds residents to check batteries and expiration dates on all detectors within their business or residence to ensure they are in good working order.
