The Town of Okotoks will be participating in waste reduction week with a special event at the Okotoks Eco Centre tomorrow.

Paul Lyons, Town of Okotoks Waste Services Manager, says they'll be accepting drop-offs of electronics and household hazardous waste.

He says it's all part of a national waste reduction education and awareness campaign.

"Waste reduction week is a program that focuses on the economy, resource efficiency, and waste reduction," Lyons explains. "It's a Canadian initiative held one week every year in October."

Residents are invited to visit the Eco Centre to dispose of any electronics or hazardous household waste items on Saturday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day will also feature tours of the Eco Centre, refreshments and a draw for a home water conservation kit. In addition, residents are also invited to bring a pail and shovel and scoop up some free compost, while quantities last.

Lyons says the event offers a great opportunity to help raise awareness of the programs the town offers that can help residents with their fall clean-up.

"We know that our residents are using the programs that we currently have," Lyons explains. "But we want to reach out to them and now is the time when we're doing a lot of clean-up. We have the ability to collect all these different materials and so we want to do that this weekend to continue to create awareness."

The Okotoks Eco Centre is located at 100-1118 North Railway Street.
