Okotokians are lucky that the only ice they're about to see in September is the ice going in at the Okotoks Curling Club.

Both Okotoks and Black Diamond curling clubs are in the process of installing their ice and getting ready for the 2016-17 season.

Oilfields curling club manager and Okotoks curling club ice manager, Mike Libbus, says the installment in Okotoks starts with the town.

"The process starts basically with the town turning the rink over to us, which they were definitely great in accommodating that early this year. And then from there on we start painting, paint the rings, and get the ice installed and we are hoping to be able to throw some rocks on it next week."

Libbus says both clubs are a bit ahead of schedule this year and with very good reason.

"It's an exciting year for us, the Masters is a huge event in the curling world. We are going to be closing both facilities for the week to make sure we have everyone there supporting it. Buying tickets, volunteering, doing whatever they have to be doing to make sure Okotoks does the best event they possibly can."

Black Diamond will be starting up a week early as well to help volunteer and support the huge curling event.

Registration is now open for both clubs and Libbus encourages Foothills residents to sign up if interested in throwing some rocks this winter.

"Both facilities do have spaces available, and a lot of friendly atmospheres are created at both places. We are looking for new curlers, old curlers, doesn't matter if they are experienced, non experienced, so if anyone is interested get in touch with myself and I can point them in the right direction."
