A local mom is overwhelmed with gratitude after the Okotoks community came together to help her out of an unfortunate situation.

Laura Bishop, single mother of three and employed in retail, woke up one mid-November morning to find that her car had been stolen.

The car was stolen from in front of her home, to be found a day later by the RCMP, completely destroyed. A replacement car was purchased after the theft, however, the wiring harness caught fire in less than a week and was irreparable.

Laura Bishop says she reached out to a friend of hers, who in turn, reached out to the community, and within the week, found herself with a replacement car.

"He put it on Facebook, and Miller Automotive came forward. A whole bunch of the guys there came together and put the word out, found a car that would work, and inspected it. It was pretty amazing, everything they did for us, basically, just reaching out to the community," she said.

Bishop had only basic insurance on the original car that was stolen, leaving her with no coverage for the loss, in addition to $400 in towing bills.

Many local businesses and residents came together to make this possible, with the original owner of second replacement car donating a $50 gas card and six oil changes to the family.

" I just want to thank everybody for helping us out. My heart is just full, it's so kind of everybody. We're very grateful," said Bishop.

Bishop ended up with a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, with the help of Kevin Knight, Miller Automotive, Collision Solutions, Diamond Thermal Coatings, Cactus Roofing, Danes Towing and Recovery, and multiple local families.
