Downtown Okotoks will be alive with entertainment on Saturday.

The seventh annual BuskersFest will see Elizabeth Street through to North Railway Street lined with performers.

Mark Doherty, Community Events Coordinator for the Town of Okotoks, says the whole idea of the event is to support local talent.

"We've had individuals that have gone on to actually make careers out of this. There's Maddison Krebs who's in Nashville, and Sam Smith had an audition for The Voice, so there is a lot of opportunities that come out of this and it gives them some confidence playing in front of the public and some great exposure as well."

Onlookers will get to vote on their favourite performers with the top five being invited back to perform on stage at a major Okotoks event.

Doherty says the event acts as a platform for different types of entertainment.

"There's a lot of talent out there and not a lot of opportunities to get that exposure and perform in front of crowds so this is a great chance for anywhere from singers, musicians, street performers, jugglers, you name it, there's such a variety of performers out there."

BuskersFest takes place from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
