The Okotoks & District Chamber of Commerce is looking for new board directors.

The Chamber had a full slate of directors at the start of the year but due to certain circumstances some had to resign from their post.

Chamber President Andrew Gustafson says they're looking for five dedicated directors to join them.

"We were at the bare minimum and just through basic tradition in volunteer organizations we've lost a few people," he says. "So we find ourselves at the moment in violation of our by-laws, it doesn't really sound like a really nice thing to admit but we are shy of the number of directors that we're required to have and so we're putting a call out to our membership to see if anyone wants to step."

The Chamber will be adjusting their by-laws in the next couple weeks to simplify their needs as a volunteer organization.

Gustafson says the potential new directors will have to throw their hat into the ring and face members of the Chamber in their semi annual meeting at D'Arcy Ranch on June 15, right before their monthly luncheon.

"We're asking our membership to come to the meeting, we are going to propose to our membership a special resolution to actually make an amendment to one of the clauses in our by-laws that clause is currently that the board shall consist of between 10 to 15 members plus the executive."

Gustafson says having as many as 21 directors is now too many for the Chamber and that's one of the reasons they're hoping to change the by-law.

He says the new directors can come from any field of business within the chamber from Trades down to ICT gurus.

"Any business that owns a membership within the Chamber, one person from that business is eligible to run for a position on the board. We've have more than those five people at the moment we have a few more than that putting their names forward so that SGM on June 15th will also be an election and the membership will have the opportunity to choose from the people who have put their names forward."
