The Town of Okotoks' 2022 budget survey is drawing to a close but there's still time to have your say.

According to the town's chief administrative officer, Elaine Vincent, this survey will be particularly important given that it's an election year.

The goal is to provide the newly-elected town council with a good idea of what people want to see more of in and from the town.

"What we felt was important was for the new council to know what the community values, really doing a measure of how we're performing against what's most important for them, and then talking to them about what's the most important change they'd like to see for their community. We know that when a council is elected, they want to be able to show they're listening to the community and implement changes to address that."

The survey is designed to be extremely accessible and to cut to the core of what people love about Okotoks.

"What makes Okotoks your home? Why did you choose it? What do you value the most? That way, we know what's non-negotiable. We already know the parks, the trail systems, and our rec centres, those are the key priorities for Okotokians, but what else is in there? That's what kicked off the launch of the transit program two years ago," says Vincent.

Vincent says you don't need to have knowledge of municipal budgeting or town planning to participate. It's really just as simple as letting the town know what you like and what you want to see more of.

"It's simple. It's easy. It's what's important to you. I think everyone wants to be able to pass that onto us, and we would love to hear from you."

The survey is open until June 20.
