The Town of Okotoks is now awaiting the announcement from the Alberta Summer Games officials for who will win the bid of hosting the 2022 Alberta Summer Games.

The Selection Committee for the games was in town earlier this month to see if facilities meet the requirements.

The Okotoks Rec Centre, Crystal Ridge beach house and lake, Seaman Stadium, Riverside Park, On Deck, and the Crescent Point Regional Field House were all toured by the committee.

Susan Laurin, Community Services Director for the Town of Okotoks, says everything seemed to go smoothly.

"They wanted to see are the facilities able to host provincial type events, so as well as looking at the facilities to make sure they're the right size, it's how would they look in order to be able to accommodate all of the fans that would come, and all of our facilities have that."

Laurin says they already know how accommodations would work.

"We have signed a joint use and support agreement with both school divisions, so we would use the high school and some of the schools as accommodations and the Alberta Sport Connection has 3,000 cots that they bring in and then we also would line up with the local hotels in Okotoks and the area for officials."

She adds the athletes would be fed in the curling rink as the ice would be out and the Rec Centre also has a commercial kitchen and fire code that fits the bill for the scale of the event.

The winner of the bid to host the 2022 Alberta Summer Games will be announced in September.
