Member artists at the Okotoks Art Gallery have lent their talents to a tribute to the railway in celebration of Canada's 150th.

"From Cow-Catcher to Caboose" features a colourful display of railway-themed art in a variety of media.

Allan Boss, Town of Okotoks Culture and Heritage Manager, says the railway theme was a perfect fit, especially in light of the gallery building's history.

"We wanted to do something that would align with our members and Okotokians," Boss says. "And align with the fact that the Okotoks Art Gallery is in an old train station, a 1929 CP Rail Station that's been retired for a number of years."

Boss says the gallery's highest visitor traffic of the year happens during the summer months, so they aim to develop exhibits that will have widespread appeal. He says the goal for this summer's exhibit was to create a strong Canadian theme in the gallery, in light of Canada's 150th.

"It's a great thing to step into the Okotoks Art Gallery," Boss says. "One of the most common things that I hear from visitors that haven't been here before is a gasp and a reaction that they didn't know that this facility was inside of an old train station."

From Cow-Catcher to Caboose includes a wide variety of art, including watercolour, acrylics and photography.

The exhibit runs until September 2.
