As of noon today, Sept. 19 there are 18 candidates running for the position of Councillor and two for Mayor for the 2017 Municipal Election in Okotoks.

Cathy Duplessis, Legislative & Policy Services Manager, says the turn out for the 2017 nomination day was quite comparable to years past.

"I understand that we had a large number in 2013 too, I wasn't here with the town at that point in time, but we've always had good turn out is my understanding."

Duplessis shares candidates will now be able to start posting signs advertising their candidacy.

"I always advise the candidates that there are some policies they need to comply with; there's the Election Signage Policy, we've got three election corrals, so this time we've marked them, and we encourage the candidates to use those corrals. We also encourage candidates to follow the process for private property signage, and of course get permission for that."

Sign corrals can be found on the North, South, and East ends of Okotoks.

Duplessis shares there will be a Candidates Forum on Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the Foothills Centennial Centre.

"I encourage all candidates and the public to go out and listen to the forum, and be informed when they come out and vote on election day."
