The Okotoks Art Gallery is inviting residents to the opening of new fall exhibits.

On Saturday, the gallery will unveil two new exhibits by Alberta artists, which will run from Sept. 9 to Nov. 11.

Allan Boss, Culture and Heritage Manager with the Town of Okotoks, says the first exhibit is called Threads That Bind, by Calgary artist Ann Hessel.

"She did a submission and when we first saw the pictures the Committee was intrigued by them, but we had to go do a visit to see her pieces in person because she works with fabric, the images don't do the pieces justice," he says. "The images that you see in a photograph look like plain abstract but she works with different types of fabric, and burns, sews, and layers, and it becomes sort of this textural potpourri; beautiful, colourful and really intriguing to look at."

The second exhibit in the large gallery is called Reflections of Canada by Calgary artist Colin Smith, Boss shares the display consists of 60'' high definition photographs taken in camera obscura inside of a Boler trailer.

"Camera obscura is a wonderful device that is sort of a pinhole camera. When you blacken out a room and put a small hole on a window pane that you've got covered up, through that small hole you get an image that's reflected upside down inside of the complete blackness of a room. So he blacked out a Boler trailer and he took it to different places and captured images of the outside, reflected on the inside of the trailer, and they're just stunning to look at. "

Boss says the exhibit reflects something truly Canadian, the photographs depict landscapes within Alberta, and across Canada, taken from a Boler trailer, which is also a Canadian company.

Both artists will be in attendance for the opening on Sept. 9, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
