Michael Nychyk was the clear victor in Monday nights Town Council by-election.

While Nychyk was thrilled with the win he was also quick to thank the other candidates.

"First off, I'd like to thank the other candidates that ran.  It takes a lot of time, effort and energy. I just appreciate their contribution to the community and I'm hoping they'll step up into another role where they can be active and engaged and knowing those three other individuals I know they will."

With 1,457 ballots cast, 818 were in Nychyk's favour.  Coming in second was former councillor Jamie Kinghorn with 311.

And rounding out the votes were Sandra Wiebe with 176 and Terry Coleman with 152.

Nychyk says he looks forward to working with council over the next year.

"I've always supported what Council has been doing so finishing projects that are frustration points in the community is obviously something of great importance."

And he also adds that some of those need to be addressed but some things need to be finished first.

"The 12th avenue issue, the construction that continues to go on downtown...ya know I had some people speak to me about things like our pool and how things like that might be improved.  There are lots of projects there but there's some completion that has to happen first before we go on to those next steps."

The by-election was held to fill the vacant council seat of Peter Loran, who resigned in August to move to the west coast.

The results are unofficial until Friday Oct 21 and Nychyk will be sworn in on October 24th for a one year term.

The next municipal election will be held in October of 2017.
