The Notley government's Speech From The Throne calls for a new committee to provide advice on energy diversification to enhance economic diversification and job creation.

The government also plans to implement Alberta's Climate Leadership Plan to show the country, and the world, that Alberta is a leader in climate change and continue engagement on pipelines.

“Canada’s inability over the past 10 years to pursue a strategic energy policy supported by Canadians has made it impossible so far for our country to diversify our markets,” Lieutenant-Governor Lois Mitchell says. “The result is that Canadian energy exports are heavily discounted, even at these low prices. That must change.”

The speech mentioned the need for Alberta's energy industry “must have a safe and efficient pipeline to tidewater” so the product can get the highest value on world markets.

The Throne Speech also calls for a Child Benefit Plan that will provide 340-million for up to 380,000 children in low-income families

Legislation will be introduced to protect Albertans in economic distress from predatory lending.

The government also plans to continue to invest $34-billion in infrastructure while protecting health care and education services in the upcoming budget.

There's also mention of help for communities like Hinton that have been adversely affected by the goal to get away from coal by 2030.
