A local non-profit is raising money for survivors of domestic violence.

Gems for Gems is hosting Sweat for Survivors November 23 at the Okotoks Rec Centre.

The fitness event will feature a number of different fitness types performed by various instructors.

"The really exciting thing about this isn't just bringing different modalities of fitness together, it's also bringing the Gems for Gems ambassadors together," said Gems for Gems Founder Jordan Guildford.

Gems for Gems is a nationally-recognized charity, which aims to end the cycle of abuse by empowering and educating survivors.

The idea behind Sweat for Survivors is to raise money and keep the proceeds close to home. Funds raised will go towards the Gems for Gems scholarship program.

"All funds will go directly to a scholarship for an Okotoks or Foothills-region woman who has survived domestic abuse," said Guildford.
