Four people are now going to try to win the nomination for the United Conservative Party in the Highwood Riding heading into the next provincial election.

Former Okotoks Town Councillor, Carrie Fischer and former Highwood Progressive Party Association President R.J. Sigurdson have added their names to the race for the nomination.

They join Dean Leask, and the current MLA, Wayne Anderson.

Fischer says she hopes the nomination campaign stays civil.

"I'm hoping it'll be respectful. I'm hoping there'll be lot's of really good discussion and academic debate in a respectful way and that we can reach somebody who's going to be a great candidate for this riding."

Fischer ran against Anderson in the last provincial election in 2015, carrying the PC banner after beating out former Wildrose Leader, Danielle Smith, who had jumped to the PC Party when Jim Prentice took over as Premier following the resignation of Alison Redford.

Anderson beat out Fischer in the election, claiming the seat for the Wildrose, who have since joined with the PC's to form the United Conservative Party.

The nomination vote should go sometime late this Fall, with the next provincial election expected to happen sometime around next May.

Only party members will be able to vote, and only those in the Highwood Riding as it will be for the next election, which won't include High River which becomes part of the Livingstone-Macleod riding for the next election.

High River's Justin Murphy is running for the nomination in Livingstone-Macleod, along with Claresholm business owner Roger Reid.
