Following a thorough investigation Okotoks RCMP have determined an alleged assault in Cimarron did not take place as originally reported.

On November 18, RCMP responded to a complaint of an assault against a young female at her residence, in which claims were made a knife was held to her throat.

The investigation has now been concluded, RCMP say they are not seeking any suspects or futher information.

In a Facebook posting, the complainants mother says the event did not happen.

"As of recent we have discovered that the event did not indeed occur. Our daughter has been admitted to the hospital for a mental assessment and observation. We do apologize on behalf of our daughter for putting the community on alert. This trauma has affected our family more than we can express. We do not wish to make any further comments at this time, and we ask that we be given the time needed to help our family heal and process everything."

Corporal Darryl Dawkins of the Okotoks General Investigation says social media played a big role in the case.

“This reported situation became magnified as a result of social media” says Corporal Darryl Dawkins of the Okotoks General Investigation Section.  “It is a reminder to the community that the RCMP is committed to and will diligently investigate all complaints and report on them accurately.”

Further information in relation to this incident will not be made available.
