Politicians make tons of promises during elections, but how much do all those promises add up to?

Luckily the Canadian Taxpayers Federation keeps track of such things.

The Federations Federal Director Aaron Wudrick has the breakdown.

The Liberals are promising $9.5-billion in new spending and the New Democrats are promising $7-billion, the Conservatives, much more modest in their offering at about $190-million. Over time the NDP will outstrip the Liberals, spending would rise to about $12-billion a year in four years and the Liberals slightly less at just under $10-Billion. Where as the Conservatives would be quite modest at $260-Million."

"With our federal debt costing taxpayers $26 billion per year in interest payments alone, it's important for Canadians to know exactly how each party would pay for increases in future spending," said Wudrick.

Not all promises by the parties have been costed.

The Conservatives have not costed six promises.

The Liberals have nine un-costed promises and the NDP have two promises that still require costing.

We head to the polls Monday, October 19.
