Turner Valley citizens came together October 11th to celebrate the redeveloped and newly named Perdue Park.

Local fire fighters, RCMP officers, Town Councillors and Turner Valley families gathered to dedicate the park to late Turner Valley RCMP Constable Jeremy Perdue.

Perdue was an 11 year member of the RCMP and had been serving in Turner Valley since 2009, where he was involved in numerous community initiatives before he succumbed to a rare form of cancer earlier this year.

Mayor of Turner Valley Kelly Tuck says, the redeveloped park was rightfully named.

"It was a survey through our Parks and Recreation Committee. They put it out into the community and that was the name that came back hands down from this community and it makes sense. Jeremy had five kids and they're going to be a vibrant part of our community. So it will be nice for them to come play here and have a piece of their dad."

Perdue's wife, Kira Perdue says the communities support has been everlasting.

"It's overwhelming, they've been such a huge blessing. I can't say thank you enough to everybody who has done this for us, it just blows be away...For my kids it's special to come here and see the sign and to know that this is for their dad and it's a good place for them to come and remember him and just have fun."

The park features new equipment from the Turner Valley spray park and other new additions that include: climbing structures, swings, slides and sitting areas for families to enjoy.

Mayor Tuck adds that honoring Perdue, the very well liked and respected Constable, has been a very humbling experience.

The park can be found at the corner of John Street and Robert Street in Turner Valley.
