A former social studies teach has taken his passion for politics to the next level.

Bill Young, a retired high school Social Studies teacher along with a lauded wrestling and football coach, is one of the new trustees on the Foothills School Divison.

He says his father was a trustee and it has always been in the back of his mind that he would do that.

"Politics is certainly a passion of mine," said Young. "I am certainly learning you can't be a one man show."

There are a couple of projects he is looking forward to working on including looking at school improvements and making delivery of curriculum better for the students.

"It is difficult to deliver sometimes a curriculum to an appropriate manner for all learners. So when I see stuff like school improvements and things like that I am quite interested in that."

He adds he has seen a lot of change in the last decade and expects a lot more changes in the next few years.

Young hit the ground running, after winning the election Monday night he was at his first School Council meeting in Blackie on Wednesday night.

"I was quite impressed, and I am still quite impressed, by what they are doing there and the same with Cayley."

He won't be at the Heritage Heights meeting until January because of all the Christmas Concerts in December.

Young says the secret to being successful in the role of a trustee is balancing being loyal to the board and being loyal to your continuants.

"You  have to learn what's the balance and you bring forth issues and hope you can be persuasive enough that things can be addressed."
