A new market with an emphasis on supporting local has been well received in the Foothills.

Granary Road opened this past summer with it's active learning park opening its gates in July and the public market in August.

Jane Walter- Lockwood, director of business development for Granary Road, says reception so far has been great.

"We've heard great feedback from people, they love the fact they can come and bring their families and spend the day out in the active learning park really getting a good outdoor experience and having fun then go into the pubic market and grab lunch or something for dinner then head back out to the park again. It's just been a super fun experience for us."

Walter- Lockwood says they put a great deal of effort into picking the appropriate vendors from the region.

"It took us seven months to hand pick our vendors and we wanted to pick vendors from in and around the Calgary, Okotoks area," she explains. "Just vendors that had a great community spirit and really wanted to be a part of a project that's going to benefit Southern Alberta and I think we did a great job, our vendors have been phenomenal."

This weekend marks the final time the active learning park will be open for the season but the public market will remain open through the year Thurs-Sun.

Next weekend the park will celebrate Pumpkin Fest with pumpkin carvings and pumpkin themed goodies from vendors.

Granary Road's Christmas market will start Nov. 17 and run for six weekends.
