A new improv theatre is set to debut in Okotoks a week from now.

Elizabeth St. Improv will be hosting its first drop-in class in early May, and is set to give Okotokians a chance to hone their improvisation skills.

Joseph Tubb, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Elizabeth Street Improv, says they were invited to use an existing artist space in town.

"We got the invite through some friends of ours at Studio Me, that's the venue that we're gonna be holding the drop-in and the shows at for now. Mark and Jody run Studio Me as a space for artists to use and teach. They really wanted an improv show and we really to start our own improv theatre."

Tubb says he has a few years of performing and teaching under his belt.

"I've been doing improv in Calgary for quite a few years now with an organization there. I actually had no performing background up until the point when a joined the Kinkonauts, now I've been performing shows and teaching and all that good stuff for a few years now."

He says improv can be implemented into facets of daily life such as public speaking and social interaction, and invites residents to give it a try.

Drop-in classes are intended for residents over the age of 18, and will be held every Friday at Studio Me, located at 21 Elizabeth Street.

The first class will be held on May 3rd with a $7 fee, with the first all-ages show planned for late-May.
