Staying or getting in shape is not a problem in Okotoks, as another training facility has just opened their doors on Southbank Blvd.

Built Strong Athletics had it's grand opening Saturday, October 22nd and not only is it a personal training centre for all ages but it's also an area that specializes in developing hockey skills.

Co-owner of Built Strong Athletics, Jill Matthews says there are a couple of different areas that set them apart from other gyms.

"Basically we are an athletic training facility, hockey specific being that we have the eclipse shooting area and the hockey skating treadmill. We also offer dry land training for teams and small groups of any sport, right now we have some BMXers and lacrosse players so we are kind of drawing from all sports."

The eclipse shooting area allows players to work on their shot while the skating treadmill works on their skating stride and technique.

Matthews says the facility helps people, that may only practice one sport, with muscle growth in all areas.

"Being a mom of three hockey players and knowing the importance of cross training I really believe if you just do one sport... and they're focusing on that one sport...a certain aspect of those muscles are only ever being trained. So cross training helps to make sure all the muscles are activating and working together really to prevent injury because if you do one set of actives all the time without looking after the other muscles or other movements it will create imbalances."

Co-owner Adam Armstrong says the built strong team is super excited to open their doors to the public and help people stay fit.

"It's great, it's a great feeling. Everyone at the grand opening really seemed to be enjoying themselves and I think it will be a huge asset for Okotoks to have this training facility in town."

The facility also offers birthday, team parties or family event packages and is already working with a peewee 'AA' team to keep them on track physically through their season.
