Opportunities for youth in our community are seeing growth as programs continue to develop through the Town and Recreation Centre.

Carey Gruber, Youth Social Development Specialist for the Town of oOkotoks, says they captured information from the Youth Friendly Okotoks Conference that helped spawn the idea of a book club.

"Our local youth are not always in the know about the opportunities that are available for them here in Okotoks. The idea of a book club came up, and when I floated the idea with the youth that are in the current program, they were over the moon," she said.

Gruber says through feedback, they've developed a way for students to network through their enjoyment of books.

"This is a new program that is going to be starting on January 11th for youth in junior high and senior high, so grades seven to twelve," she said.

The book club will be held in the Youth Centre at the Okotoks Recreation Centre, is free of charge, and participants will receive a free three-month library membership.

The next Lead Program is set to begin on March 15th, 2019, and will focus on nature, sustainability, the environment, animals and parks.
