The Okotoks Spray Park was approved for expansion and the town has big plans for it.

The park will be expanded to roughly 800 square feet and will be able to entertain 140 kids with its new 13 fun water features.

Recreation Facilities Manager Doug Robson says, the expansion will double the size of the original park.

"We are expanding, we are pretty much doubling the size of it and it will flow in a horseshoe heading out to the west and there will be about approximately 13 new toys added onto it."

Robson says one of the features most looked forward to is the public washrooms that will be on site.

"The other thing we are adding to is some washrooms out there...just a normal design of Spray Park washrooms...they'll be located just when you first walk into the park, just off the parking lot. We are still working out the details but it should be right in that area."

Robson says they plan to break ground in early May.

"We've awarded it to a company called Play works, they'll begin ordering our equipment next week and we hope to break ground in May. They're going to work up until the later part of June and at that time they will stop construction and leave site so we can open up the original park, so families can enjoy the Spray Park for several months, it's normal operation. And then at that time we will shut the original one down on August 22nd, and Playworks will come back to finish construction."

The expansion of the Spray Park won't be done until spring 2017, and will be open for tons of fun for families next summer.

The new park will include water cannons, lily pads, water buckets and many other fun water features.

The town was planning to host a public consultation for residents to state their feature preferences for the new addition to the Spray Park but due to the time constraint they don't know if they are able to fit it in.

Robson says the public consultation is not out of the cards though and residents should stay tuned because they are still working out the details.
