National Volunteer Week is coming to a close, and young Keira Gushulak says if you've ever thought about trying to volunteer to just jump right in.

For Gushulak, she says is was her older sister who got into volunteering.

"She asked me so many times to volunteer, but I was never a big fan of the idea." Gushulak says "She eventually convinced me and I did volunteer one time at the Teddy Bear Picnic and I really enjoyed it so much, that I decided to do more of it."

Now Gushulak is using volunteer experience to get closer to her long term career goals of being a lifeguard.

She says her favorite part of volunteering and the reason she'll continue, is thanks to younger kids.

"I love little kids a lot, and to me just seeing the look on their face when someone is personally helping them is awesome. I remember when I was younger, and I didn't have a lot of help with swimming and all that, so just having that extra hand is a lot of help."

Gushulak has a message for anyone who has thought about volunteering.

"Why not try? If you don't like it, you don't have to keep doing it, but why not try?"
